Private Label Clothing Manufacturing for Canadian Brands

Your labels, your hang tags, your branding on garments cut and sewn at our factory in Dhaka — from 300 pieces per style. This page covers how a private label order actually runs and what goes on the garment. For current Canadian duty status, GST/HST and CBSA specifics, see our main page for Canadian brands.

Bilingual EN/FR care and fibre-content labelling, and CA-number placement once you have one, are handled as standard on every Canada-bound private label order — not billed as an add-on.

What Private Label Means for a Canadian Brand

The three terms get used loosely, and mixing them up is the fastest way to end up with the wrong quote. Private label sits in the middle: you get a real garment with your branding, built from our existing base patterns and fabric library rather than a from-scratch design.

For a Canadian brand specifically, this is usually the right starting point if you have a brand identity and a rough idea of the garment you want, but not a finished tech pack or an in-house pattern-maker. You're not buying a blank someone else already stocks, and you're not paying for a from-scratch development cycle either — you're customising a proven base with your own fit adjustments, trim, colourway, and labelling.

Most first-time Canadian clients choose private label because it removes the two biggest barriers to a first production run: you don't need pattern-making expertise to get a well-fitted garment, and you don't need a six-figure order to get real branding on it. If your idea grows into something that needs a fully original silhouette, moving to OEM later is a straightforward conversation, not a restart.

What We Put on the Garment

Woven Label

Your brand name and logo, woven and sewn into the neck or side seam. Send us vector artwork and we'll confirm the label size, thread colours, and fold style (centre-fold, end-fold, or loop) before production.

Hang Tag

Printed swing tag attached with a plastic tag pin, carrying your branding and, if you want, a QR code, price field, or care instructions on the reverse. Card stock and finish (matte, gloss, kraft) are your call.

Size Tab

Separate size label sewn at the side seam, matched to your chosen size chart — Canadian numeric or letter, US, or your own custom grading if you've already built one.

Bilingual EN/FR Care Label

Fibre content in both English and French as standard, in the CAN/CGSB-86.1 care symbol format if you include care instructions. See our Canada page for what federal law does and doesn't require bilingual.

CA Number Placement

Once you have a CA identification number from the Competition Bureau, we place it on the label exactly where it needs to go, alongside your dealer identity and country of origin. We don't have one of our own to put there instead — it has to be yours.

Barcode / SKU

UPC or your internal SKU printed on a hang tag sticker or woven into the care label, formatted for your POS system, Shopify inventory, or a marketplace's product-identifier requirement.

All six of these are confirmed at the tech-pack stage, before cutting starts on your sample — not left as an afterthought once bulk is already underway. Send whatever you have (finished artwork, a rough sketch, or just a description of what you want) and we'll turn it into production-ready specs.

How a First Private Label Order Runs

  1. Brief: send your base style reference, size range, and brand assets (logo file, label artwork, hang tag design). No finished tech pack needed — reference images and a written description are enough to start.
  2. Quote: CAD FOB pricing and lead time within 48 hours, based on your chosen base pattern, fabric, and quantity split across sizes and colours.
  3. Tech pack and label confirmation: we finalise the spec sheet and confirm woven label, hang tag, size tab, and bilingual care label details before anything gets cut.
  4. Sample with your brand on it: a 30% deposit starts sampling. The proto sample ships in around 14 days with your actual woven label and hang tag attached, not a generic placeholder, so you're approving what bulk will actually look like. Up to 10 free revisions are included.
  5. Bulk production: once the sample is approved and the 70% balance is paid, cutting and sewing begin on dedicated lines, with labelling applied at scale as garments come off the line.
  6. AQL inspection and FOB shipment: fabric, inline, and final inspection against AQL 2.5, then packed and loaded at Chittagong or Dhaka with full export documentation, including the origin paperwork your broker needs for LDCT treatment.

Packaging for Shopify, 3PL, and Amazon.ca

Individual polybagging with your barcode, carton marking that matches your packing list (style, colour, size breakdown, and quantity per carton), and bilingual inserts — a size guide or thank-you card in EN/FR — if you want them, all handled before the shipment leaves Bangladesh.

If your goods are heading into a 3PL or a marketplace like Amazon.ca, send us that platform's prep guide with your brief. We'll pack to that spec rather than guessing at generic requirements — prep rules vary by platform and change without much notice, so the current guide from your account is the source we work from, not our own assumptions.

For a Shopify-first brand shipping direct to your own warehouse or a fulfilment partner, the default is simpler: polybag, hang tag attached, cartons labelled by style and size run, ready to receive and shelve without extra repacking on your end.

What Base Styles We Start From

Private label works best on categories where a well-made base pattern already covers most of what a brand needs: t-shirts, hoodies and sweatshirts, activewear, loungewear, and basic wovens are the most common starting points. Fit, fabric weight, and colourway are all adjustable from there.

If your idea needs a genuinely original silhouette — a construction we don't already have a pattern for — that's closer to OEM territory, and we'll tell you so at the quote stage rather than forcing a private label fit that won't actually work.

Common First-Order Mistakes to Avoid

  • Finalising packaging and label artwork after bulk cutting has already started — confirm every label element at the tech-pack stage instead.
  • Assuming a supplier's "private label" quote includes bilingual labelling by default — ask directly, since not every factory builds this in.
  • Ordering before you have a CA number if you're planning to sell in the near term — apply early so the label is correct from the first production run, not reprinted later.
  • Skipping a written prep guide when shipping to a 3PL or marketplace — verbal instructions get lost between departments on both ends.

Pricing and Payment Terms

Private label pricing is quoted per style, in CAD FOB, based on fabric, construction complexity, trim choices, and quantity. Because you're starting from a proven base pattern rather than paying for original development, unit costs typically land below an equivalent OEM order at the same volume — though the exact gap depends on how much customisation you're asking for beyond the base.

Standard terms are 30% deposit to begin sampling, with the 70% balance due before bulk cutting starts. Letters of credit are available for larger orders if that's how your business prefers to pay. None of this changes because the order is private label rather than OEM — the payment structure is the same across our manufacturing models.

Lead Time, From Brief to Your Warehouse

Sample development runs about 14 days from a confirmed brief, with up to 10 free revisions if the fit or labelling needs adjustment. Bulk production takes roughly 30–45 days after the pre-production sample is approved, depending on order size and how many styles are running at once.

Add sea freight from Chittagong — typically 28–40 days to Vancouver, longer via transhipment to Montreal or Halifax — and a realistic window from first brief to stock landing in Canada runs somewhere around 90–110 days for a first order. Reorders on an approved style move faster, since sampling is usually skipped or shortened.

If your launch date is fixed — a trade show, a funding-round demo, a specific retail intake window — tell us that date at the brief stage. We'll build the sampling and production schedule backward from it rather than forward from "as fast as possible," which is a more honest way to plan a first order than hoping every stage runs at best-case speed.

Private Label FAQ

What's the difference between private label and white label?

White label is a generic blank you label with no customisation to the garment itself. Private label starts from our existing base patterns and fabric library but allows real customisation — fit tweaks, trim choices, colourways — alongside your branding.

Can I use my own hang tags and woven labels?

Yes — send your own label and hang tag files, or your physical trims if you've already had them made, and we'll apply them during production.

What's the minimum order for a private label run?

300 pieces per style, split across sizes and colours. See our low-MOQ page for Canadian startups for how that split typically works.

Do you handle bilingual EN/FR labels for private label orders?

Yes, as standard on Canada-bound orders. Fibre content appears in both English and French; dealer identity and origin only need one official language by federal law, and we set both up regardless since it costs nothing extra at this stage.

Is private label cheaper than OEM?

Usually yes, per unit, because you're not paying for pattern development from scratch. The trade-off is design flexibility: private label starts from our base patterns, while OEM builds exactly to your own tech pack regardless of what we already have on hand.
